can/does require to become a 350/500cc class winner today.
Sort of like removing anything inside the visable outside of the cases then scrapping the area and changing all the removed parts with other designs.
Jerry has designed/built what looks exactly like a Stocker from the outside but is capable to beat the other engine designes from all the racing world.
If ya were to get eyes-on ya would see What It Actually Takes design/labor to make a winning engine and one that runs to the end as a winner. ........lm

The advantage is an extra 100cc if you swap in a different crank, and the head flows better than most of us can manage with a CB77.
But it's hardly the only way to get 500cc. Ask Jerry Kooistra! he has an incredibly fast 500cc CB77 and has built several of them.
The real reason is because you can. It's the challenge.
