Thanks for the clarification, Richard. I find it useful to know the rationale behind a rule-of-thumb.

Back to the Kenig pistons..... I have a couple of sets as well - when I showed 'em to my engine builder (experienced with these engines) he said straight out - their 'dope' pistons IE Racing fuel only. They look like they'd be 10:1 or so....

But I'm wondering - from the sounds of things, if I fitted them into a C77 dream, they would produce lower compression - maybe 9.5:1 ? Might be ok in a Dream (C) engine, rather than a superhawk (CB) engine.....?

Thoughts?

When he said "dope" he probably meant Methanol ie very high compression. Too high for the street I suspect.

I've got a set of the 2nd over kenigs in my little "Road Racer". I run pump gas (BP/Amoco Silver) and haven't had a problem yet. However it's alway ridden WFO for 20 minutes max at a time. Running 145 mains with baffled megs. Still a bit rich. Super Torquey. Clutch slips bad till you get to speed. Runs about 70 in the 1/8 and just starting to pull good in 3rd. Can't say about top speed out on the road--- too scared to look down at the speedo.

Nice looking bike Mark, Where did that tank come from? That seat is so like the TR500 seat I used to tun on mine. Looks the part.

I guess the obvious question is, what Octane is your "pump Gas"???

The pistons are alledgedly 10:1 run in a CB engine. I reckon they might be OK run on 98 octane ina Dream engine...... Might have to try it ;)
