Correct Jensen. Vince, as far as I know, the inner and outer length should change regardless of the cable's overal. Length.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could shorten the outer by a few mm. Just pull off the swaged ferrule on the cable end and saw a couple of mm off the outer with a junior hacksaw. Peel back a bit of the vinyl and re-seat the ferrule. Hey presto, a cable that fits!

I was thinking about that. No going back from that though if I needed to fit the stock carbs in the meantime?

Get a cheap spare off eBay and you'll have a 'Plan B' to fall back on. If you only remove a small section you ought to be able to accommodate both types of carbs with one cable. Better to have a spare though, just in case....

Nice simple carbs, those Concentrics. I have an Amal Monobloc on my Matchless. It's been performing perfectly for 44 years.

Thanks for the tip. Got a ride to Tahoe Thurs morning, so I'll have to try to make
due with the old set in the mean time.

I find that the end in the splitter is a soldered tube sort of affair so I remove it with a iron then shorten the gray sheath to what I need and install the tube thing I had removed. ............lm

Just heard back from John (mechanic), and he did not indicate to me that there was any problem regarding the throttle cable, but here again, maybe my throttle cable is somehow different (don't forget - I'm no mechanic!).

If your outer sheath is too long, I don't think it's really a big deal to shorten it -- Rick Parkington (Classic Bike Magazine) demonstrated how to do it a few months ago in his tech column, and it seemed pretty straightforward (at least to my non-mechanic eyes).
