just got a honda 305

Post by xxlcamel » Tue Aug 10, 2010 9:02 pm

I just lucked my way into a great deal on a superhawk. ohio is funny about missing titles but i talked with the dmv and im in the process of gettin one. im having a lot of fun working on it but to be honest i would rather have something much larger. lol

i pulled it out of a storage shed with plates on it that expired in 1981. i checked the oil and it was clean. the bike appeared to be someelses prodject at one time. the relay under the seat was new. so i put a new battery and plugs in it and it fired right up.

no leaks or cracks, just a few cosmetic issues. i took the original handle bars off and put on a custom set, with new hand grips and mirrors. it didnt have any mirrors on it it when i got it. having a time finding tires but i hear k82's or tt100's are the way to go. there are a couple vintage bike dedalers in the columbus ohio area that im checking in with.

the only issue im having is it appears that the gear shift pedal has been bent and is loose. it shifts fine but when your on the bike its hard to find the gear. the pedal is loose and seems like maybe it needs adjusted.... any one ever run into that? the clutch works good and sometimes when you go into first it acts like it is in second....

any how im having a lot of fun with it thus far but i am thinking of adding turn signals to the bike.... any suggestions?

Congrats on the purchase. It's hard to tell from the small first pic, but it looks like someone put on Scrambler bars on it to begin with.

For tires, you might want to consider avon roadriders. A lot of guys end up with those since they seem to fit well and offer good grip. They're not quite vintage in looks though.

Don't worry about the small size either. The bike may have half the CC's of modern bikes but it has twice the style :-)

thanks, i will check those out this weekend. im supposed to see a guy about tires over the weekend i will be sure to remember those... he was telling me he had an off brand that specailized in classic looking street tires for vintage bikes and that he might be able to get them in 18 by 3..... but ill remember to ask about those and the k82's... yeah pics suck.. those were from my phone....

A fair few words and suggestions have been published in The Forum about this; here's one topic on the sublect.

Hope it's of help. G'luck with the project and welcome along!

Some additional food for thought.
