1963 CL72 New User/Old Bike Restoration

Post by CrankyHippo » Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:49 pm

Hey everybody,

i've been coming to this website and finding some great information for the past week, so i thought i'd share the new bike in my life. It was my grandpa's bike which he recently gave to me (thanks again gramps) 2,300 miles on it and most of it is there. He shaved off the emblems waaaay back in 69 :( when it was last registered, after which it sat in a garage for 20+ years then out in a barn for the last 5 years. So needless to say she got a little dirty.

Right now i'm in the process of cleaning the carbs, new tubing, cleaning the rust out of the tank, finding new parts, etc. I'm still looking for the keys and manual, grandpa says its around somewhere but i did find the pink slip/registration.

If anyone has any tips for a newbie it would be most appreciated. The new parts i've ordered/found so far are new Cheng Shin tires, ordered a new battery, carb rebuilt kit, and spark plugs. I'm thinking of going for a slightly more Cafe Racer look, lower bars, differently shaped seat, bar end mirrors, but nothing too extreme from stock.
