Clutch lever stuck after chain broke

I recently bought my first motorcycle, 1965 CL77/Scrambler. I'm admittedly know next to nothing about motor work. New points, plugs, terminals, cleaned out of the tank, cleaned and adjusted carbs...bike is running and I'm learning.

My chain broke @40mph on the way home from the dmv and now the clutch lever is stuck. The good news is I passed the endorsement exam :)

Reading and seeing previous forum photos I now realize that the drive chain & sprocket along with the rear sprocket needed replaced and are on my list for order from the lbs today. Sticking with the original sprocket sizes and a sealed chain.

What should I do to begin damage assessment on the clutch?

Did you take the right side cover off yet to see what the chain may have damaged?That is where I'd start.

Ditto, More than likely when the chain broke it smucked the clutch adjuster/ Cam/ lever. Pull the RS cover and repair the damage.

Yep, chain was lodged in caddywompus and smashed down one side of an attachment holding the clutch cable. Removing the RS cover freed things up.
