I take off my carbs to clean them, come back to my bike 10 days later, and in moving it accross the garage I notice that the clutch is not doing anything. There is tension in the cable so it would seem that it's still connected and isn't snapped. I can shift the bike in and out of gear / neutral with or without the clutch depressed.
Could it be sticking because it has been sitting for 1.5 weeks with maybe dirty oil (just bought the bike)?
Any advice would be VERY appreciated. I have the Ron Silver manual and a lot of confidence, but this is the first bike I have worked on so I'm no pro. 240z's have been my forte until now.
Hopefully the bike will at least idle properly when I get the carbs back on tomorrow :) I'm going nuts, I just want to ride my first bike!

Re: Clutch does nothing?
The trans will shift without the lever pulled as long as the engine isn't running.
Engine running as I'm sure you know you must pull lever or OFF YA GO!
Is the cllutch actually stuck? (put in gear pull lever and can't move bike) ............lm

That's exactly what's happening... put in gear, pull lever, bike can't move. I'm going to get those carbs on and get it running again, change oil, etc. I will let you know what happens!

Alas, I put it in first, pulled the clutch in, rolled it back and forth. It was in gear, but after I pushed it forward and backwards a little it loosened up. I think the plates were stuck from bad and possibly gasoline contaminated oil sitting in it. All seems to be good for now. Thanks!
Now to my carb problems in the next post...

I spoke too soon. After it sits for a while it sticks again until I do as outlined in my last post. Then it's fine. Then if it sits for ten minutes, same problem, same resolution. What could this be? Clutch plates?
Thanks,
Adam

Did you ever pull side cover and check the plates and disks?Per LM I am using the NAPA 30w non-detergent oil.It seems just from my short experience that as soon as the oil starts to get dirty clutch release problems are not far behind. If your engine was pretty cruddy it may take a few oil changes to get alot of the gunk out.Just my 2 cents.
