CL72 shorttracker

That bike looks great, you do outstanding work!
All it needs is a short tracker's spool front hub but I understand the part about building with what you have.
Really makes me want to build a TT replica like what I used to ride.
Awesome bike!

Flathead, that turned out really nice! I'd like to see shots of the pipe, and here how it was done. I have a set of those header pipes I believe, the old chrome straight TT pipes from back in the day.

Mark,
What's the deal with all the brakes, just joking. The bike turned out really well, nice workmanship. Cliff

The brakes are just there to get the bike broke in. Also we can run up at the local drag strip on Fri nites for test and tune but ya gotta have a front brake. The front brake has got to be disabled to run on the local short track I think. Anyway it's coming off if needed. I kinda like the looks of the sandcast front hubs though. The pipes are customs that I bent up from 1-1/2 14 gage. They hang about an inch lower than I was shooting for but will be fine on a flat surface plus you can still get the footpegs dropped down so you can remove the right side cover without taking off the pipes. Pretty easy to make with only 2 bends in the right and 3 in the left. I've got some 1-1/2 16 ga on order, so when that comes in I may go ahead and bend up a few sets before I forget what I did on this one. BTW all the paint on this bike with the exception of the fiberglass seat is Powdercoat. I cut the bottom out of the tank (someone had butchered the petcock area) , beat the dents out, bead blasted and phosphated the inside and outside, tig welded it back up, tested and powdercoated. The rims, covers, and levers are done in black texture.

Here's a couple of pics of the pipes.

Thanks,
Mark

Oh, and I forgot to mention , the clutch cable goes under the tank, I'm still messin with the carbs so I gotta take the tank off again.

Mark, thanks for the pics. The bike truly looks great! No muffler or baffle? My CL77 tracker is in final mock-up. I"ll post a pic. It has a CL72 crank, with a 3mm over 305 top end. Vibration is not bad on that one either. I have 15-40 gearing, and it pulls wheelies.

Davo,
No mufflers or baffles yet.

I got to ride the bike Mon afternoon on a short level straight section out in the country. I've got some serious too tall gearing at 14/40 though. The bike kicks in low and runs out of wind at (guessing) about 3000 rpm. Kinda weird as it drops in acceleration and struggles at mid to higher RPM and then gives you a short burst of power when you shift to a higher gear and the RPM drop. Jetting seems to be good with a nice brown plug. I'm not sure exactly about the timing. I set it just like I would a 180 engine. My calculations say it should run around 65MPH at 8000 RPM the way its set up. I'm gonna cut a 48 tooth rear today on the CNC and shoot for 50-55 MPH and see how it acts when I run it again this weekend. Vibration is no where near an issue and the bike seem to be very ridable but I've only made (4) 1/4 mile passes with it.
