weird sound

Post by 68Cb77 » Sun May 30, 2010 7:29 am

Out driving the other day, I noticed a new sound from the engine, while stopped in traffic with the clutch in. An intermittent rattle, seemed like it was coming from lower right side, almost like a chain freaking out. Now, I'm thinking the only thing down there that could make the sound might be the starter chain, could the unit that has the starter dogs (not sure what they're called) behind the generator (stator) be the culprit? anybody else had this problem? It's not a very reassuring sound!

Guess I better rip it apart....Darnit! I just had a thought this morning....any chance of it being a kickstarter issue?

If the lever isn't full forward the Kick Starter Pawl can/will be rubbing the gear. ................lm

Are you certain it's not the cam chain needing adjustment?

hmm, not certain, I have hardly any miles since the re-build, but that's an easy check before I worry about something worse. The sound really sounded like it was down on the right side. thanks.
