Well, it needs to be at whatever height causes the engine to run optimally which varies according to that engine's unique...qualities? If you think it's running lean, raising the jet needles will richen. You raise the needles by placing the clips lower.
Maybe one more look at your jets is in order just to be sure some debris hasn't made its way in there. What with using our old gas tanks and so forth associated with getting machines running that have been dormant, sometimes it takes a while for all the loose stuff to flush through and end up on your screens...or not. One more pass through through the fuel supply chain might be warranted. Sometimes we think new parts is the key when it's something simpler.
Did, and done. Could a clogged pilot jet be the culprit? It is 100% clogged in the right side carb, which is the side I thought sounded worse. It looks REALLY clogged but I also found a LOT of crap floating around in my fuel system. I'll put it back together tonight and see if it needs further work.
I'm a bit perplexed as I would have expected ya had checked and cleaned any/all parts of the fuel system.

Yep as it won't allow that side to idle. ....................lm
So the main jets are 145's but the needle is in the bottom location. I think I'll keep these jets (since it was lean to begin with) and just raise the needle... wise?
I broke one of the little clips that adjust the needle height-- I'm using a ridiculous tool for the job and it proved to be a bad choice... does anybody know where I can get another one of these? I'd prefer to go pick one up than order one.
