CL77 questions

Post by TrickleDown » Sat May 01, 2010 6:31 pm

Hi,
Stuart here, from Daytona Beach. I've had this CL77 since the mid 90's. Bought it at the J Wood auction when it was still at the Armory. It's been sitting in storage since then and I'm finally going to play with it.
It has a couple of oddities that I can't figure out. Do I have a CL72 fender bracket on a CL77? I've looked at photos of my old CL72 and it looks like this bike may have the correct fender but the wrong bracket. Any ideas?
Thanks

WRONG FENDER BRACKET

You have a bracket that belongs on a steel lower fork leg model. You have what is called an 8 holer and you need to replace it with a 6 holer. Good news is that the 8 holer is worth big money and I'm sure you'll have no problem selling it for more than what you will have to spend on a 6 holer.

If it's got aluminum sliders, as it appears to have in the picture, there should only be two bolt holes in the top of fender where it attaches to the bracket. The one with four holes is for the 65 CL77 only, and the CL72s. It should be easy to get someone on the forum to do a swap, or let me know if you want to sell it outright.

Thanks much for the info. I'm pretty sure this bike was hastily put together for the auction back in the 90's when parts were a little more available.
Here's another oddity. Check out how the tank was cut to accept the carbs. What's strange here? Doesn't look at all like my old CL72.
Thanks
