Re: CB77; 6 - SPEED GEARBOXI've been involved with the the 305 bikes since 1963 and have never heard of a 6 SPEED gear set for them. Honda and a company in England made the 5 SPEED sets for a while but they are scarce. I have a OLD 1961 CB72 frame that was a GP racer many years back and to my surprise when I got it the gears they were the HONDA 5 SPEED set. I've rebuilt the engine and now need time to get to the frame and fiberglass. .........

Re: CB77; 6 - SPEED GEARBOXHi, I never said that Honda made a 6-speed box for the CB77, but I do know that an Australian guy made use of the box out of a CB 360 and at the same time, used the top-end from a CB450, to turn it into a CR77 look-alike, with a capacity in excess of 420cc. The box you are referring to was made by Nova Transmissions, and the Honda box, was from a race kit supplied by Honda CYB/RSC.<br />I know of the above mods, as I was in touch with the chap, but due to problems with my computer some time ago, I lost contact. The posting was in the hope that he would come across it, and respond.

Later on, Bill I suppose you could make anything fit anywhere, but without totally butchering the cases, it can't be done. After reading the CB360 gear set post I became curious and bought some gear sets and a set of cases from an old CL77.
The 305's were a direct drive design (the input and output shafts were locked together in high gear and shared a common centerline). The lower 3 gears were double reduction and the gears are relatively small,resulting in a close centerline between the mainshaft and countershaft. The CB350/360 were all indirect and had to have larger gears to get the necessary reduction. If you could fit the CB 360 gearset,you would also have to change to a gear driven primary,otherwise you would have 6 speeds,but they would all be in reverse. I would really like to see some detailed photos of the Nova or early Honda 5 speed setup. I would like to hear from anybody else who has given this some thought. Thanks, Randy
CB77; 6 Speed GearboxI still would like to hear something on this. The only thing I have heard (from other sources) is that the 5sp trans, from a 68' CB/CL350, will fit along with the shift drum and forks. After 68', I'm told that Honda improved the trans and because of the changes, the later model trans won't fit as easily. I'm currently looking for a 68' 350 trans, so I can check it out. If there is a 6sp trans (from another bike) that will work without too much modification, I'd like to hear about it.
Note: If the 68' 350 trans is used, the final gear ratio will have to be raised because the 350 trans is geared lower. So, it will probably take some experimenting to get it right. Later on, Bill
