no speed out of 305
no speed out of 305i just bought a 1965 honda superhawk with the 305 in it. i really dont know to much about motorcycles, but i want to learn how to work on them( i build hot rods for a living and i hear that the concept of bikes are the same as cars?) the bike has not been run in about 6 years. when i first bought the bike it wouldnt run. i took the covers off the side and the seat off and it was a wiring mess. i redid all the wiring and it looks really nice. and i got the bike running. but the problem is, is that the motor will not go faster than about 35 or 40 miles an hour. any ideas on what can cause that?
Pretty much all the same things that go wrong with cars. Compression, valve timing, ignition timing, air fuel mix, spark. Are both cylinders firing?
Is the clutch slipping? The carbs are pretty simple. The only other thing thats different from cars is the advance mechanism is virtually inaccessable(on the cam, between the cylinders) and you have a points plate instead of a distributor that's BEFORE the Ign. coils. If all the systems look good, then refer to Ed Moore's tuning page located on the website. Go to the main site, look down the list on the left, click on FAQ and look down the the list til' you see : "How do I tune my factory stock motor on my CB72/77 or CL72/77 for optimum performance? ". You can also "search" the forum for threads on different parts on the bike and problems associated with them. I'm sure someone has come across the same questions at sometime or another. Other than that, pickup a wrench and get crackin'! Just post any more specific questions as you get to them, some one here is bound to be helpful. Good luck!
