Bought 6 Dream 305's
Bought 6 Dream 305'sI bought 6 Honda Dreams from a customer of mine who wanted to clean out his shop. ($1500-I think it was a good deal) They are in various condition from good to pure parts. My question for everyone is I am taking the best one completely apart and want to replate the motor so it looks new after I do a rebuild. How is this accomplished? Is this paint or some type of plating? If it's plated, any recommendations on a provider for this service. I'm located in Gainesville, GA. I'm sure I'll be back often with questions. My goal is to have this one ready for Bike Week at Daytona for 2006. I always take my ZRX1100 and want to do something different this next year. Thanks and I'm glad to be part of the h305 board.

Allen

Hahna - Not disagreeing with you, but even with vapour blasting, it is EXTREMELY difficult to get back to an as-new appearance to the alloy on the head, barrels & bottom end. And even if you do, it won't last long. A decent silver, or aluminium coloured engine enamel will bring it back to damn-near as new - I suspect no-one would notice - and last much longer.
But, you're right about the cases - although I 'think' the clutch & alternator covers were still polished...... Certainly, that's how most restorers do them, anyway. While it is difficult to get an as-new appearance without painting its not impossible. Check out my pics.
I like to think mine looks pretty close. I also took a look at the covers. The large engine side covers are painted. You can see it in this picture. I have started to remove some of the paint. The actual round covers are polished.
