Hi,

I've seen that "crack" before in these cases, my C77 from 1964 has the same V-shaped crack in it's case. I don't think it's a crack, more like something what arise during production or in the way it's made. But check if it's deep, probably not.

The last picture is from the crank bearing position, I can't really tell what that is, and if it's bad. A clean case and a sharp picture would help.

thanks so much for the help..The last picture is from the crank bearing stator side..someone must have had the bearing out of position when reassembling and broke out the bottom of the hole...it looks like it can be welded

You are correct as to the cause. It can be repaired by simply removing the loose piece and the bearing locater pin and cleaning the area/parts with a good cleaner such as spray carb or brake and then putting J.B. WELD on the loose piece and case just enough so ya can push the bearing pin in place.
Ya will save the case ya need this way. ............lm

sounds good with the jb weld...should the jb weld be put down in the hole and set the pin to the correct height to cure and in the crack on the outside of the case? thank you again...billy
