Megaphone pipes?

Post by jk72350 » Thu Feb 16, 2006 12:33 pm

Does anyone know were I can get a nice set of megaphone pipes for my 65 cb77? The one in the pictures section with the cafe style seat has them on and I think they look just right on a bike fom that era. Im in the middle of a full on retso and if I have to change one thing from the stock version its going to be those ugly factory pipes!

Megaphone Pipes

Post by Vince Lupo » Fri Feb 17, 2006 3:21 am

I've installed a pair of EMGO Dunstall Decibel pipes and they are awesome. They're about $ 120.00 a pair and they are probably more free-flowing than the stock ones. As well, if you think of it, Paul Dunstall was designing this stuff during the 1960's, so they could be considered a 'period' aftermarket accessory (at least they do to me). There are two kinds: The 'Wide Mouth Outlet' (Part #80-84050, which is the one I have) and the 'Reverse Cone' (Part #80-84051). If you go to the EMGO website and look under the 'Replacement Parts for British Motorcycles', you can see them there. As well, I think that even JC Whitney has them. The finish is really nice, but they are a lilttle shorter than the stock ones and they hang down just a tad lower than the stock ones too, but as long as you're not knee-dragging you shouldn't even notice that difference. There is also a 26" long 'Universal Megaphone' Style (Part #80-84034) if that's more your taste. Good Luck!

And what condition are those ugly original pipes in, if you don't mind my asking?

If I may throw in my 2 cents worth too, I just installed a set of those Dunstalls on my cb77 and I love 'em ! Sound great and look cool too. I would sugest J.C.Whitneys for the megaphones. They have them and and are reasonable price wise. I have a pair waiting to go on my cafe style cb I'm building and think they will look "the nutzz" (I think that means good) Steve Greer
