CA78 Dream Information

Post by lhharrell » Mon May 18, 2009 1:27 pm

I purchased a Honda Dream from an estate sale Saturday and would like to get some information on the bike. It is titled as a 1966, frame number CA78 1008XXX. My first question is on the paint and trim. The paint, which looks original, is gold metalflake and the fenders, forks and shocks are all chrome. Only the tank and side covers are painted. It also has what I would call "bumpers", chrome tubes around the fenders on front and back. All the 305 Dreams I have seen are painted body and fenders and never one in a gold paint. Does anyone know if this combination is original or some modification to the bikes? See Attached Pictures, Thanks Larry

Larry, it appears that the PO went crazy at the chrome shop. These bikes were never sold in gold, so it's custom paint as well. Might be kinda coll to redo it as you got it, a sort of one off machine.

Kind of an oddball but worth maintaining as found. Like the Johnny Cash song says you'll "have the only one there is around."

That is completely insane, and I mean that in the best possible way! Despite the fact that it's not original, it's an amazing looking bike. I'd paint the side covers and center tank a stock color ( black, I think) and get a black stock seat cover.

Amazing looking bike. I worry about what I'd do if I had the power and means to chrome-plate!
