lurching in gearupdate. i took the clutch cover off and then took the clutch apart. the the plates were stuck together but came apart with some prying. I have a few questions ya'll might be able to help me with. Should the metal plates separate from the fiber ones? also, does the last one come out? it doesn't seem stuck, just a little bound up. should I get after it and make it come out? also, what should i use to clean the plates before oiling them? thanks
ClutchI-man, I just wiped mine off with rags. Check for flatness(I used a piece of plate glass) and measure your friction discs, specs are in the manual. Yes the last plate does come out and I think it might be thicker...............................D
i cleaned the plates and put it back together and adjusted the cable as recommended but it still won't roll in gear with the clutch engaged. I didn't put the cover back on so when I pull in the clutch i can see the plates expanding, but still no joy. some points of interest-I discovered that the metal plates do separate from the fiber ones. everything seemed to be in good shape. i couldn't get the last plate out, but i could pry it enough to tell that it wasn't stuck, just bound up in the basket. I've adjusted the cable adjustment screws to the limit at the clutch lever and there is about an inch and a quarter of threads showing on the adjusting screw where the cable goes into the housing. Help, please.
lurchingThe last plate may be held in place by a very thin wire.
These clutches are difficulut to adjust correctly. I suggest buying a repair manual and follow the instuctions, or hopefully some can print instuctions here. 66 Dream
78 Goldwing it does seem like i'm missing something on the adjustment. i did it the way I discribed it in my first post in this thread. maybe someone with more experience will read what I wrote and let me know if that seems correct. has to the ball bearing, could someone walk me through checking that? I've got bill silvers manual, but I learn best with pictures, and frankly much of it is over my head.
