Dream Steering Damper CA77

Finally got the broken stud out of the steering stem and installed a replacement damper assembly.
Now, to lube the friction plates or not? & if so with what?

Since they are " friction plates" , dry would be the way to go.

That was my initial guess, but so are the clutch plates, and they seem to stick together just fine even bathed in oil!!
When I disassembled the old unit, it had been coated with some kind of oil.
So I cleaned them and shot them with universal cure-all (wd40) and added some waterproof grease under the spring fingers.
Now my tank slapper fear is all gone!!
Thanks for the reply,
