Whats in the Big Bore kits?

Post by rickyrace » Tue Nov 08, 2005 4:53 pm

Had no responses in the Big Bore Forum so I will try here.

Newby to the forum and bike. I apologize if this has been covered in the past. I am going to rebuild my Grandfathers 1965 CB77 305 Honda Superhawk. It will just see occasional riding time but I would like to get a little more punch out of the motor if it doesn't break the bank$$.
?Questions, What parts come in the big bore kits and who sells them? What are the different size options in big bore kits? Can I put together my own big bore parts? Can I use the same (stock) cylinder sleeves with boring of course? What carb jetting changes are you doing with the bigger bore?
Thanks in advance for the info.
Rick.

The kits were discontinued many years back so they are seldom seen. I have a cylinder and pistons here that were in a CB77 I rebuilt but put back the factory size. I may sugest that you think of these small bore engines as just that and keep in mind that the days of stopping at a red light next to a BSA or Triumph or other 300cc bike are long gone. I ride my 1963 CB77 on the beautiful highways here in the Texas Hill Country and it goes 60/70 anywhere I want it to. ..........LM

Thanks for the reply. What I am finding out is that it would be safe to bore the stock sleeves of a 305 to fit 63mm pistons. If so that would bring up the motor to about 337cc's. I need to bore and hone the cylinders anyway so might as well go for the gusto. (if you want to call 337cc's gusto) .
Rick.

Loudmouse, do you sell parts and/or work on these bikes? Is this business or a hobby for you?
Rick.

It is a hobby and I do sell some parts at times.
I'm shipping my 9th engine out and have 3 others on site and last year I did 12 engines. .....................LM

LM, do you charge hourly or by the job. How much would I expect to pay parts and labor for a top end rebuild on my 305 motor? Valve Job, Oversized pistons, Boring, Honeing, and gaskets.
Rick.
