front fender

I have a 1962 CB77e superhawk. My front fender is chrome but needs re chroming, but my back fender is grey.Should I refinish the front fender in chrome or paint it like the back, also the side covers are chrome. Is it common to have chrome on these bikes or more desirable in paint.

Welcome Chris, What're your bike's complete frame and engine nºs? You have a CB77 -- the 'E' suffix denotes 'engine' and is only within the engine number. You will find that the VIN is sometimes referred to as 'CB77F-......' in some publications; this is to differentiate between the Engine and Frame numbers but you won't find CB77F anywhere on the bike.

Some '67's had chrome fenders (from CB77-1056084), front and rear; so if you intend keeping yours as close to correct as possible (as a '62) then sell the front on eBay (or whatever) and pick up one that was originally painted, matching the colour by painting them both, along with the side panels, at the same time.

Addendum: be sure to pick up one that's suitable for 'type-1' front fork legs -- pre-'67 (CB77-1030130)
