CA77 Rear shock disassembly

Post by teufelziege » Thu Aug 06, 2009 1:54 pm

Ok, total newb here. I just got a 1963 CA77 and have dived right into disassembling the bike. I haven't purchased Bill Silver's CD yet, but I wasn't sure if this was covered. I am trying to take apart the rear shock which has the upper and lower covers (upper plastic, lower chrome) and according to what appears in the microfiche, I should be able to twist the upper portion to unscrew the piece off of the piston rod. Well, what happens is that it just twists the piston rod as well and doesn't move. My upper case on this particular shock was broken so I can see inside to the spring and piston rod.

Any ideas on how to get this apart?

I did not, but now that I do, it makes sense. I actually saw that nut in the parts diagram, but couldn't figure out where it was.

I did search the forum and did not find that. I am a newbie to this forum, but am accustomed to searching before asking. Unfortunately, I did not see it. BUT, I am VERY grateful for those who take the time throw a bone to us poor slobs who can't get our sh*t together! ;-)

Thanks again!

Hey Thomas, welcome to the forum. A brief intro opens up a few doors here; and a bit more info on your avatar -- location, etc.. I'm a CB-guy, through & through, but can help with some aspects of touring models; alas, not suspension though! Sorry.....

G'luck & rgds,

Steve
