Yes and when I looked close I saw the frame numbers were not HONDAS stamps.
I have seen a couple and tis easy to tell cause the frame numbers match a true HONDA number stamped in the engine case.
I've also seen the new numbers stamped into the engine case but that's easy to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Years back ya could buy a NOS frame with no numbers on it and of course the new owner would match the engine numbers to the ones he stamped into the frame.
I once saw a frame with the numbers stamped from the top down.
Now ya can for sure bet that some Bubba did that not HONDA. .....lm

ahhhhhhhhh...finally at rest. haha, thanks, it was killin me. part of fun with these old bikes is that, (generally) the history is a mystery. i guess i had this pre conceived notion that like cars, a "numbers matching" bike would have more value....

my engine and frame #'s are off by 582, with the engine having the lowest number. Could it be that the engine sat on a shelf awaiting a frame and that it really is the original set up for this bike?

CL77 frames

I have a Honda replacement frame with no numbers. The frame is a 1967 model because of the way the seat mounts (lip affair). Tank is a 1966 or earlier as it does have the fuel cross over line. I believe that the only numbers on the frame is a TL. No clue where the number is on the engine other than the usual area.
