adding blinkers/winkers
adding blinkers/winkersRestoation 1964 Honda Dream 305
Getting down to the last few parts that I need and for a couple of reasons I want to add a set of blinkers/winkers. I have hard saddle bags for the bikes rear with blinkers/winkers already attached so that's good. I see the handlebar mounted ones on ebay all the time so those are easy enough to get. My problem is finding the handle bar switch for the right side ? ( I presume.) Mine did not come stock with blinkers/winkers so no switch. Also what about the flasher there's one on ebay for $80.00 out of Thailand is that the only option ? Sure would appreciate the help in locating a right hand switch and correct flasher. What alterntives has anybody used ? Yes I know I posted in 2 places, thanks for being patient just want to get some help. Hi Dave
I asked the same question for a CB72 a while ago and was pointed towards a CB160 switch. Its somewhere in this section of the forum. The problem only comes up if you don't want to use some proprietry switch and have to run the cables outside the handlebar; I've seen a CB77 using BMW style winkers that fit in the end of the bars and he used a bolt on flick switch. good hunting Phil
I talked to Charlie at Charlie's Place in SF. He recommended buying some nice modest blinkers from Japan that look period and attach to the headlight housing bolts and rear shock bolts. Then a solution for wiring controls would be to modify your high beam switch to a three-way blinker switch.
I'll be taking that route as soon as the bike is done. I'm all for the blinkers though, safety first. Current restoration: 1962 CB77

flasher for bikeI just bought a 2 wire electronic flasher to replace the defective unit on my CL. in the automotive isle at the local farm / fleet store for 2.95 , look around it was labeled for RV's near all the other flashers , sure it is not OEM but you could spend the extra $77 on something else you need .

SOLUTION FOUNDWell I bought some clamp on to the handlebar front turn signals and I already have hard saddle bags that I plan on using. They have blinkers & brake lights in them so that will cover the rear. I finally found a universal 2 way switch from a company called heeters.com, for 13.95 that didn't look to bad.It has a bracket that mounts onto the handlebars so everything is handy. thanks for the advice.
I used a nice period looking bulb set with a cheesy clamp on switch for a while. Those bulbs would drain the battery fast. left me without power more than a few times until I went LED everything. I got some tiny, bright as hell LED ones to change to, now I need a real switch.
power is fine now, mostly
