CL77 ExhaustDavomoto, Tim McDowell has had repro mufflers and seals on ebay. Check out ebay # 320353313716 for the seal. Read down through the description and he talks about the slip on muffler.
BTW A young man who is interested in my daughter came to my house the other night with a Davomoto t-shirt on that he got at Old Navy. He had no idea what a 305 was (he thought it said "805") or who you were, but just thought it was a cool shirt. Wow! It must be awesome having people thinking you are really great without having any idea who you are or what you do. Maybe you should run for President or something. When some young man shows up to see either of my daughters, he better be wearing a bullet proof vest, not a davomoto T-shirt! LOL, great story man, the kid probably had a foot in the door when he showed up with that shirt. I'm gonna run for president of my dirt bike club, and that's about it!
davomoto Davomoto. When I made this post about my exhaust, you were a big help. Only one problem. the kid that showed up at my house with your shirt on is probably going to be my future son-in-law now. Those shirts should come with a disclaimer or something. Its not that the shirt impresses the Dad. Apparently, when a young man wears your shirt, the young girls lose their minds and can't resist the guy.
Back to my exhaust. I read page 11 of the CL72/77 section of Silvers resto book. If I read it correctly, the very early CL77's had "flush baffles" with no slip on muffler. Mine is CL77E1003807 which looks to me like a '65. What exhaust is correct for my bike?
CL77 ExhaustsThe earlier (Pre 1967) had the slip on cannisters (mufflers cans) and you could remove that and install some slip IN baffles to tone it down some or Snuff-or-Nots. The 1967 had the can WELDED on the TOP pipe and the lower slid into it. This is as much as I know as I've had, have all years 1965 up.
Thanks Mountainman.
I got this bike over 35 years ago in boxes, so I never saw it together. The pipes that came with it have bolt holes for the slip in baffles as you have described. Since my VIN is so low, I thought I might be correct with baffles only as Silvers suggest and save the trouble and $$ of buying a muffler. A word to the wise. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER let your daughter wear a Davomoto T-shirt. Based on what I have seen with this kid chasing my daughter, it would just be too much for the young guys to see a young girl in one of those shirts.
