Electric Starter
Electric StarterElectric starter problem:
I have had intermittent problems with the electric starter since I rebuilt my 1966 CP77. A year or two ago, the starter would work: If the engine was warm. If the battery was fully charged. If it felt like it. Now it won't start unless I kick it. I have read previous posts about a starter clutch, and springs wearing out. I can't find any information about where the starter clutch is, and where I would go to replace the springs. I have replaced the engine clutch plates, and they work fine. I assume that the starter clutch is on the other side of the engine. The electric starter spins the chain just fine, it doesn't spin the engine. Does this require major surgery to fix? RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Terry, it sounds like you need new starter clutch rollers, springs and possibly plungers. It's a doddle of a job; let us know.
FYI, WHHY have (or at least 'had' a couple of month back) the items in stock: http://www.westernhillshondayamaha.com/ ... detail.asp ROLLER (10.2X11.5) 91101-377-000 SPRING 28125-253-020 CAP 28126-253-030 3 of each, cheap as chips! parts@westernhillshonda.net
FYI, over 300 of each part in Honda inventory, as these are common to many engines up through the late 90s. Any dealer can get them if you're in a rush, and no worry about running out anytime soon. everything else...
