Problems With Ignition Advance?

The screw is part #93700-05016 which is now available from Honda as superceded number #93700-05016-0A.<br /> The -0A is just a finish code. If I'm not mistaken it's just the 5mm and under screws that are JSO.

OOooh, wait, those are 5x16's so those ain't gonna work! I thought they were 6mm. You can get them, but they won't work, they changed the thread pitch. I don't know why they superceded the numbers, it only leads to heart ache!<br /> <br />

That's what I thought, too much advance. I did use a electrical test light when timing the points. I wonder if this is caused by me timing the points with the spark plugs out? Maybe without compression, the backlash in the valvetrain (chain, sprockets, etc.) was not taken up? I did the final static timing check by turning the engine in the clockwise direction (facing the generator rotor). Is this correct?<br /><br />That's what I thought about the screws, NLA. So what do you guys do? Buy a set of Heli-coils and replace them one by one?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Tom

Good morning.<br />I am the proud owner of a 1963 CB72. Rebuilt by my own fair hand 10 years ago, the poor machine developed a misfire recently. Changed points/plugs/caps/leads/, fuel mixture. Finally took the engine out to check advance/retard mechanism. The spings seemed loose, allowing the points cam to rotate a bit without any resistance being felt. The free length of the springs is 22.5mm and 23.0mm inside the loops. <br />Is this right? Does anyone have any other ideas?<br />Paul
