New CL77 Owner - Question about rear frame seat mounts

Hi Guys

Great site. Have been looking at all of the posts on this forum and learning as much as I can abut my new CL77 project. Engine No - CL77E 1054364, Frame No CL77 1046196 . I have restored a few bikes but have been inactive for several years. I have always wanted a Honda 305 since my brother owned a CB72 in the 1970s. His holed a piston shortly after he rebuilt the engine and I was very sad to see it sold on.

As you can see my project came as a carload of bits so I am trying to inventory all of the parts I have so that I can start working out the bits I need.

I have a question about the rear frame tubes which attach to the seat and mudguard support loop. Could someone post a picture of how the tube ends look, please? Mine looks mangled so I cannot see if there is something missing or not. The parts manual shows a kind of clamp but I cannot work out if this is part of the frame or a separate piece. It's not listed separately but it just doesn't seem to be there on my bike.

Looking forward to getting this project on the road already. I think I'm going to finish it in blue / silver but using a modern metallic blue.

Why don't you post a pic of the part you are questioning to make it easier to give you an answer?

As I can see the chrome fender stay installed I assume the frame is OK at the seat rear mounts.
HONDA used 2 special designed shoulder bolts and a neoprene washer/spacer which was inserted in the large holes at the rear of the seat frame. .................lm

LM - Thanks. The holes are there and the chrome rail fits in. I was just unsure of what the attachment was. From the parts manual it looked like something was missing from the frame, but you have set me right now.

eyedragaknee - I'm in the US at the moment and the bike is back at home in England at the moment. I'll take some more pics when I get home next week.

These photos show how it goes; the chrome rear bar slides into the rear of the frame until the reliefs in the bar line up with the bolt lug holes. The bolts that attach the seat to the frame pass through the holes thus locking the chrome bar into place. Make sure the rubber grommets that are installed in the seat pan holes which the bolts go through have the thickest part on the underside otherwise the rear of the seat will rest on the rear fender and damage the paint. Don't ask me why I know this.

The older CL's 65, 66 didn't use the rubber in the rear seat mounts did they? jwb
