CB77 Tires
CB77 TiresI am nearing the point of putting my CB77 back together and I am buying the remaining parts. What do people with CB77s recommend?
On the rims now are 300X18 tubeless tires with the same street tread on both front and back. I am not sure if these have tubes in or not. They have tread, but the sidewalls have some weather checking so I want to replace them. Retro Bikes has 300X18 rears, and 275X18 fronts for the CB77. The fronts are Chen Shin with the ribbed design like what was on the bike when new. The rears are also Chen Shin with a standard street tire tread. This will be a rider, so should I go with regular street tread front and rear, or with the setup like stock? Will I need tubes? Thanks, Gunner Gunner, they surely have tubes in them, as tubeless and spoke rims don't go together, except BMWs. It's hard to find a modern tire in correct sizes, 2.75 front, 3.00 rear. Search through old posts, search cb77 tire/s to get an idea of whats out there. You'll probably want to replace tubes as well. I use the cheng shins on my resto/riders, and they are fine. obviously you can get better handling from a modern tread design, and a good rubber compound.
davomoto For what its worth, I have used the Cheng Shins in the past and they are a decent tire for the $'s, look good but wear rather fast. The biggest issue with them right now is that Cheng Shin ceased production of street tires in January and they are getting scarce. They are no longer available at JCW or other sources that I have used in the past. So if you want to run the cheng shins and find some, you better stock them up while you can. My delema right now is that I'm having a hard time locatng a decent 3.00 x 18 high speed street tire (not cheng shin) for my cafe/race CB77. I'm using shouldered alloy 1.85x18 rims and just cannot seem to find a match or close match front and rear that I'm comfortable with at 70+.
