Does anyone know if painting your vintage Honda another

Does anyone know if painting your vintage Honda another color other then stock increase or diminishes the value?

I thought it used to but today we are seeing a lot of vintage and classic cycles painted a non stock color.

it's a safe bet that stock will always be the most valuable, as it continually is the rarer find.

Any custom paint job is going to appeal to a smaller audience with any automobile, as it has to do with personal taste and not classic restoration.

Here is what I am thinking long term & correct me if you think I am wrong.

I only see mostly white and some black Dreams. I was think if I do repaint to do a candy apple red.

What do you think?

I agree with Gun. If everyone had one, a custom paint job would increase the value. The only place I see Dreams are here or on the web. You don't see many on the road. If you paint it to one of the vintage colors, it's a head turner on the road, and it has a vintage value.

Six months ago, I had no idea what kind of bike I had. Just bringing it home in the back of the truck, I had someone stop and talk to me about it. As I learn more, I want the vintage look. I think an original paint job has more of an appeal to people who know what it is. Just my opinion.

plenty of red dreams out there.

i think you should paint your bike the color you want to ride it around as. I painted my cb77 a color my girlfriend chose out. an old classic car teal-green color. but because i never plan on selling my cb77, it's value is only important in my own eyes.

if you plan on eventually selling it, or garnering the interest of other purists, go one of the classic colors (red, blue, black, white). If you just plan on enjoying it, enjoy it being the color you think would look best.

(now i'm day dreaming of a classic green dream)

I have a red one, although with the paint fading I think it is more of a burnt orange.

I can have a look on the plate to see if it has a color code if you like?

Paint it whatever colour you want -- as far as 'value' goes, we're not talking a Vincent Black Shadow here, so do what pleases you.

Of course, I guess it might also depend on whether you intend on keeping the bike for the long term or turning around and trying to sell it right away (probably not a good idea given the present economy!). But whatever paint scheme you end up going with, it might be a good idea to consider one that you're not going to grow tired of after a year.
