Need a photo of a battery tray on a CL-77I have an early frame battery box that has clips bolted in the position where the welded on ones are creating the catch that holds the battery strap. Sorry don't have a frame # as the frame is long gone, just salvaged a good battery box from it, do remember it as being early # tho. Is it just someone's after market creation? Don't know.

HONDA replaced the metal top wit the rubber strap because of a couple of things.
The acid would destroy the metal part and rubber would handle the acid better. And a bike could be assembled much quicker with the strap rather than a bracket and 2 6mm bolts. As there were many frames which were issued with the metal bracket and HONDA wanted to change to rubber they designed a bracket which could be mounted to the frame on both sides of the battery with a couple of 6mm bolts and hold the rubber strap. That said HONDA issued a battery holding kit which installed a thicker rubber mat under the battery and a metal top bracket with rubber strips to hold the sides of the battery centered and that metal bracket was held in place with a different/longer rubber strap by the bolt on/welded brackets on the frame rails in an attempt to stop vibration damage to the battery. The seat pan on the early style frames (not the type with the rubber sleeve) had to have a portion of the frame hammered or cut out so the battery vapor tube would not be broken off. This was because the rubber pad under the battery was thicker and raised the battery which would cause the seat pan the break the front top of the battery off. .................lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Need a battery boxThis is what I have. It looks like I need to weld a battery box back onto the frame as well as the seat mount. The rest of the frame looks OK except for the stop switch bracket. It is worth fixing.
Hey LM(or anybody).... would this frame take the front mount that looks like a top hat and has the big rubber u shaped grommet or would it have the bar type mount? It is a CL77 10348XX number
