honda ca77 new owner need help

Post by chelliefish2 » Sun Sep 11, 2005 9:08 pm

I bought this bike from my dad's neighbor who didnt finish restoring it. there are a few things that my dad and I are stumped on. if anyone has any suggestions that would be nice.

1. the wiring to the battery does not have a ground wire. where does this hook up and what does it look like? nor does it have a strap to hold the battery in place.

2. oil leak at the gear shifter. could this be a seal and is it a chore to fix?

3. i have no brake cable or the brake shaft thing that engages the brakes.

4 the header pipe to the muffler joint it needs gasket. it leaks right now.

5. the electrical wiring seems to be set up wrong. I thought that it should start with a ignition button.but it doesnt, we have to turn the key up it sounds like it wont turn over and when we put it down a notch and give it some gas it starts.

a little puzzled
if anyone has pictures or diagrams of any of these topics that would be great.

we have one manual but it isnt detailed when we need it to be. I have bill silver's book on order so i hope this will help. If anyone has any pointers on any of these topics please post. we work on the bike every sat. and sun. so i do all of my gathering of information and part ordering so it will be ready by the weekend.

thanks.

Great looking bike and welcome you have come to the right place.

1. The ground for the battery hooks to a breaded strap just to the front of the battery tray. If someone else doesn’t post a picture I will in a week or two I’m not where my Dreams are this month.
2. Seal leak common problem Honda part #91202-250-000 it is a 14x25x7 You can save a few bucks by getting this from the bearing house. You will have to pull the left motor case. Do not try to use a regular screw driver for this. I use a Black & Decker impact for this. Also when you put it back together make very sure you get the chain back on the oil filter correct. You could dump a motor otherwise.
3. “I have no brake cable or the brake shaft thing that engages the brakes.” Front rear both?
4. Can’t help you there I’m running “after Market and there isn’t a gasket just a clamp.
5. Check your Email in the next day or so.

Again welcome and if I can be of help just email me.

Rob
Ebay is where most of us get parts or buy a parts bike. I have some extra parts in the garage. Swap meet. Also, I met some guys from Rhoad Island at a swap meet that have lots of used Dream parts. They had box's of cables and many other parts: their Ph# is (Bill) 401-822-1459-(Dave) 401-828-3741/E-mail is
dashon@ids.net. They will ship Worldwide. Joe

I will help you with question #1 but it will require 2 replies because you can only post 1 picture per reply.

Here is a picture of the "ground strap" for the CA77 Honda Dream .............

This picture shows the battery/tool kit bracket installed. It holds the battery down and the tool kit sits on top of the bracket. Because my bike is black this is hard to see so I will follow up this post with another that shows the bracket by itself ..........
