Does anyone have any information on performing a 5 or 6 spd conversion? I know that there are commercially made boxes available and am not interested in spending 2K on one of these.
Can a cb350K 5spd be fitted, or a 6 spd from a cb400/4? Anyone doctored up a successful conversion before?

Re: cb72/77 5spd or 6 spd conversionI have been told that the trans from a 68' CB/CL350 is supposed to drop right in. I am also told that Honda made some changes after the 1st year of the 350, that keeps the later ones from being a "drop-in". I have gotten my hands on a 68' 350 trans and have yet to have the time to check that out. Now, I was ALSO told that the overall gearing of the 350 5sp trans is geared lower, so you'd have to raise the gearing from the trans to the rear wheel. Hopefully, I'll get to check the trans swap out this Spring or early Summer. The fellow I got my info from said that he did it years ago for racing and has no documentation, so he's relying on memory. If you come along anything before then, could you let me know and I'll let you know as soon as I prove (or disprove) the swap I am told of. 5 speed or 6 speed transmission?The CB77 cases are not wide enough to fit a 6 speed transmission, the CYB 5 speed kit barely fits, by virtue of the gears being rather thin. Nova in the UK used to sell a 5 speed conversion, but that's out of production now. I've never heard of the CB350 transmission being a drop in. The design of the CB77 is such that I'd rather doubt that. Remember that the CB77's drive is on the right, the CB350's on the left. They are mirror images of each other. The kick start mechanisms are different as are the clutch assemblies.
