Rocker arm tool ?

Post by inog1 » Sun Dec 21, 2008 4:26 pm

All my manuals specify a special tool to remove rocker arms.I don't have one and would like to know if the job can be done without or can anyone explain how it works so maybe I can make one ?Thanks for any advice.

I never had any trouble getting mine out. The rocker pin isn't really tight and has a slot in the end of them, so you can wiggle them out. They have to be lined up properly on re-assembly to allow the long engine bolts through though.

Just punch the end on the inside of the head and pop it out where the case stud slot is.
No screwing in or out and no special tools. ............lm

Look at the end of the pin and you will see it can be punched to the outside enough to put a pry tool and pop the pin out. ................lm

If they are hard to remove, I use a long bolt, and pry gently against the head to extract the pins.

Thread a 6mm bolt, around 75mm in length, into the end of the rocker arm pin, clamp a vice grip to the head of the bolt, perpendicular to the length of the bolt and tap the pin out with a hammer hitting the vise grip. Works quite well. jwbert
