Steering lock - removal

Post by toastyhamster » Thu Sep 11, 2008 6:47 am

How to?

I've removed the chrome cover, but can't figure out how to get the lock mechanism out. I don't have a key for it, but I don't want to destroy it as I have a key on the way.

You have to have a key to remove the steering lock! I posted a message previously with pics on this subject. I was mistaken on one point but the pics were correct. Good locksmith could pick it. Look at the numbers on the loclset and look at some of the previous requests for keys. Several vendors and E-Bay may have them.

I have a key on the way, but my trip to the powdercoaters is likely to be before it arrives.

I HAD MY FRAME POWDER COATED WITH THE LOCK IN PLACE AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT AFTER. JUST TELL THE COATER TO TAPE IT.- UNLESS ITS A POINTS BIKE, I GUESS.

Dropped the parts off earlier and they were ok with taping it up - result.

On a related note the replacement steering head bearings arrived today, very odd to see 37 ball bearings all individually packed!
