What should I use to get old gasket material off and what should I use to reseal?

Use a copper brush to remove it and then high temp RTV for a gasket would work great unless it's a seal for around the cab. RTV doesn't like fuel at all.

<br /><br />Do NOT use RTV anywhere on your engine !!!<br /><br />Use any gasket dissolver to remove the gasket and replace with a New Gasket on assembly. If no gasket was originally used, use high temp grease between mating surfaces.

I was told by Ed Moore, who rebuilds alot of these engines to use Yamabond or Honda bond to reseal my case. I split the case to check my tranny.Also, can anyone tell me what the torque specks are for the bottm end bolts?

Michael, Educate us. Why not RTV on engine cases? I know about not using it on anything with fuel in it(learned that the hard way years ago when the stuff first came out!) Steve Greer

<br /><br />I am going on the theory that RTV, being silicone based, AFAIK, is prone to clog oil passages, etc., unlike purpose designed case sealers - as recommended by EMO - that will stay between the mating surfaces intact, as intended, but dissolve in engine oil if they get where they are not supposed to be.<br /><br /><br />MS<br /><br /><br />PS I will be away from tonight until the end of August, but can see I am leaving the forum in good hands.
