I've been a motorcycle enthusiast most of my life (and I'm not young!). Most of my recent bikes have been sportbikes and roadracing bikes, and most have been Hondas. My first bike was a Honda 550-4.

Several months ago I got interested in Honda Scramblers. I'm researching and watching ebay and Cycletrader. A CL77 is probably what I want. Prices seem to be all over the place. I'm not looking for a museum bike-I plan to ride it. I've got a 1953 Ford F-250 I use for deliveries and advertising in my business and it definitely gets used some.

First question: for a nice bike (good paint, little or no rust, runs good, fairly low mileage, straight frame, etc), what would you guess I should pay?

Second: what non-negotiables would you look for in a late 60's CL77?

There's a silver CL on ebay right now with over 15000 miles. The bid is a little over $2000 and hasn't reached the reserve. What should a bike like this really sell for (I know, it sells for what someone is willing to pay--but what do you think is reasonable?).

Are there other places besides ebay and cycletrader I should look? I'd really like to have one of these bikes. I'd even "settle" for a CL72, but that would probably cost twice as much as a CL77. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Well, those kind of questions can only be answered by you. Do you want to do any restoration to it? How much are you willing to pay for a bike? Do you want more power that a 305 will give you or do you want strictly the looks and will be happy with a 250? A 250 will most likely cost more. I think there are more parts available for the 305. Do you plan to ride longer distances on it or is it an around town bike?
See what I mean? The questions can only be answered by you. The method for answering the questions is research, research, research...Sometimes bikes are offered here and at other vintage Honda sites, ebay, cycletrader. If you can forward the pics and prices for the bike to this forum, there are a number of members that can identify the bike for it's purity of year and model a give a guess if the price is reasonable. Another helpful tip is to get Bill Silver's Restoration Guide and it has some good information on what to look for in a potential bike. You can get it at this site and I have seen it in other places...
Good luck and welcome to Honda305.com-This is a great place for info.
