Copy of CB77 Owner's Manual for a Beginner

Hello:<br />I just hauled home a neglected '65 CB77 from Grandpa's shed. The motorcycle is very rusty but it looks complete. The first thing I plan to do is clean her up and try to start the engine to make sure nothing major is broken.<br /><br />I've worked on cars quite a bit but not motorcycles. As a matter of fact I haven't ridden a motorcycle since a teenager. Hence I've been looking for an owner's manual to figure out things like where is the kill switch? I've looked on the internet/eBay, but no luck. A copy would be great and I would be happy to pay you for your trouble.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Tom

Hi Tom, Welcom to the forum! You sound like me a couple of years ago! Check the auction site here and look at Bill Silvers stuff too. (All very good) They do seem to turn up once in awhile certainly not often. Untill then there are alot of members who are willing to answer questions. Don't look for a kill switch on a CB77 there aint none! Just use the Ignition key to shut 'er down. Good luck and post pictures,we love 'em. Steve Greer

I received the CB72/CB77 owner's manual sold by Ohio Cycle. The reprint is dated '66 on the back and is of nice quality. For a newbie there's a lot of useful information. For me it was worth the $19 + ship.<br /><br />Tom

Tom, Good find on the owners manual. Now one more word,get a shop manual! You have alot of work ahead of you and those things are worth their weight in gold. Have fun with the project,ask questions, and keep us updated. Good Luck, Steve Greer

She's alive! I've been taking my time cleaning out the fuel system, replacing the lines, etc. But she did fire up over the weekend. It took a little coaxing. I had gapped the plugs at .030 (or whatever the owner's manual said) and it just wouldn't start. Then I remembered reading (here?) about setting the gap at .018. Sure enough, it fired right up after that. Luckily the starter works so I didn't have to work up a sweat kicking it over.<br /><br />I didn't get to ride it though. The petcock leaked leaks live a sieve and the brakes are really stiff. It seemed like a bad idea to ride something that had gas leaking on the exhaust and lousy brakes.<br /><br />I've got a petcock rebuild kit on order and will be taking off the wheels to see what's binding the brakes. I tried oiling the cable already.<br /><br />Tom
