new member, what bike do I have

Post by madjunk » Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:39 pm

ok,I just am getting in early hondas. I am 69 years old and am collecting up older bikes as I find them I came across this honda with a basket case engine but missing jugs and cyl. heads so I want to part it out. I need to know what model it is and what year if possible. the only numbers seem to be on the engine case. (a16oe1014306) very nice appearing bike. any help , thanks, john (madjunk)

yeah, i'm betting you're right and it's a ca160 "baby dream?" I've had a lot of old timers call my cb160 a "baby hawk" so i wonder if that applies in the touring circle.

as for the year, when i get home i'll compare it with mine and see what i find out.

I took another look but no c in front. it is a twin cylinder engine. should there be aserial # on the frame somewhere? thanks, john

from the CB160 parts fiche on the cmsnl site ( http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb160-sport- ... ERIAL.html ), the ca160 engine serials start at 'A160E-1000001', so you are correct that there's no C in front ( woulda never guessed). the frame serials start with CA160-1000001.
they first started making these bikes, i believe, in 1966. as the 14,000th made (approx.) i'd guess yours a 66 or 67. apparently nobody thought to keep track of the year end/beginning serials, so pretty hard to be certain.
below are pics of the frame serial location on my ca95 and ca77. i'd guess the ca160 frame serial is located like the ca95, but not entirely sure.
hope this helps ya some!
