I sold what I believe to be a NOS late model CL77 seat on Ebay last week. There was some condition issues that I disclosed in my listing. The buyer picked it up this past weekend and was happy when he left with it.
The next day I got an email from him stating that he did not believe that the seat was NOS as the clips that hold trim do not look exactly as the ones on his original bike. He believes that the seat is a recover. The clips that hold the trim on this seat have a push nut rather than a threaded stud and are bent over to clear the frame, I assume. I have seen seats with this type of fastener before and did not question it. The cover, pan, trim, and rubber mounts (front and rear) all are exact matches to any NOS or OEM seat I have ever seen so I don't think it could possibly be aftermarket. Only the trim clips are different from the early seats that I have to check by. The guy paid a chunk of money ($1325.00 - I listed it for $550.00, about what I had in it,with no reserve) so I told him to send it back and I would gladly refund his money, in full. I had not even considered that that it may be a recover or would have listed it as such. Now, my question is , Did any of the late model seats, even if produced after model production ended, have this type fastener? If it was made by Honda after production ended would it not still be considered NOS and correct? I just dont know. Look at the photos on my listing (http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29296-235 ... 977&lk=URL) and tell me what you think. I'm going to relist this as soon as it is returned to me and I want my description to be as accurate as possible.
Thanks,
Mark
Correct Seat ?
CL77 SeatI do believe that the original Honda seats had the post/nut assembly holding the trim rail on. The post had two flat sides so it would slide into the trim rail. I have seen recovers that you describe with the clips and post bent over. Others? Chime in as I've been wrong before. Charlie
Re: Correct Seat ?That seat is a true NOS/OEM HONDA seat and was issued near/at the end of production. Tis a shame ya didn't ask before ya offered to return the $$$ because it is a rare seat in that condition. ..................lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Thanks LM.
I was not 100% sure when I last talked to the guy. Seeing that he had spent a large amount of money for something he wasn't going to be happy with I felt that the right thing to do was just move forward. I will still have my seat, when it returns and he'll get his money back. Someone else can have a 100% correct NOS seat and he can continue to search. I understand these things are kind of hard to come by. I wish him good luck and hope that he will be sucessful. Sure wish the seat fit my 65. Thanks, Mark
