Torquing CA77 Head Bolts

Torquing CA77 Head Bolts

I was torquing the head bolts on my CA77 and 6 of the 8 all torqued up at pretty much the same number of turns. But the front outer bolts have gone several turns farther than the rest and the torque wrench still hasn't "clicked".

Is this cause for concern? Do I keep on turning regardless?

Remove the cap nut then double nut the shaft and remove it. Check the threads for aluminum. Make sure they have the top on top as if upside down the shaft can screw in a lot farther than when it's installed correctly. .................lm

Doubled nutted and removed the right side, no aluminum in the threads.

Left side will not budge. And it has more threads exposed above the valve cover than did the right side, so much so that the stud had begun to push through the top of the cap nut.

What next?

As you look at the stud you did remove is it rather thin/machined down and did it come out with the most threads at the case end?
These corner studs do flex a lot and unfortunately can/may/do snap at the case end at times.
Do you have the correct amount of gaskets on top? Two fiber and one metal? ........lm

Yes, there were more threads on the case end and the stud is machined down on the center non-threaded section.

As for gaskets...... You're making me wonder and second guess myself now. I am "reasonably sure" I have the correct ones in..... I guess I better look and see.

Pulled the valve cover off, two fibers and one metal gasket.

Compare the removed stud with the one still in the case and see if they are the same and it is installed correctly. .............lm
