i have been looking at dreams for quite a few years but never had the extra money or one close enough to not have to pay for shipping on top of the price of the bike. i pick it up tomorrow. i have been working on Vespas for a few years now too, so hopefully it won't throw me too many curveballs. we'll see.
just bought it today
yeah i did get iti picked it up on monday morning from largo, florida. when i picked it up the guy kick started it with one kick and it ran pretty well, though the idle was a little higher than i like. when i got it home, i couldn't get it to start so i pulled the plugs and sure enough they were fouled. i checked the jet settings and they were all kinds of crazy. the idle jet was almost all the way in and the main jet was too far out. so that explained the idle. i pulled the carb and did a rudimentary carb cleaning especially scraping the gunk off the floats, drained and refilled the oil (with 10w-40), and checked the throttle and clutch cables. got some fresh plugs on tuesday since i had to get them from another auto parts store , installed them and it started on the first kick again. now i have been adjusting the jets every since trying to not have it run too lean, but just enough to get that coffee and cream color. being as hot as it has been in florida lately and my not having a garage has been truly counter productive to my being comfortable working on it, but i've been doing my best. do you have any vespas or lammies? i have three vespas (p200, px150, gl150). how long have you been into the dreams? any hot tips you can give to a newcomer? i have been into these bikes for a few years (like 7) but could never find one that had four important things to me. 1)a good running motor 2)a good low price 3)a close proximity to my hometown 4)a spot in my fiancee's heart. guess the really important ones? hehe. hope to hear from you soon. ride safe. -eddy
I personally wouldn't put 25 hundred on the table for that... but it wasn't a bad buy. I mean, if you are willing to put time into it, and it's worth 25 hundred to you, then that's all that really matters.
Get everything running smoothly, put another thousand into over the course of a year, and you'll have a pretty impressive bike. '65 CB77

that looks like a complete solid original bike. i like 'em to show 40+ years of gentle wear and tear and care. it has a great look. that's about what a person in this area would have to pay for a similar bike. 10w-40 oil is fine if its a motorcycle grade of oil like torco or something. the old school guys only use non detergent 30w. automotive grade detergent oil can mess with the wet clutch. this forum has tons of really great info, and the guys are patient and helpful. the responses are sometimes kinda slow though, compared to the scooter forums like stellaspeed. it does seem to be getting busier though.
my Italian scooters, starting from newest 1979 p125x 1977 200 rally 1965 Allstate 1961 lambretta 150 series 2 1959 vbb i've been in to dreams as long as i've been into scooters. be careful, vintage Honda's are as addictive as scooters :-) sean
