correct year details:

Post by fallingpines305 » Mon May 12, 2008 7:34 am

OK, I've had my Hawk (305) for 25+ years now, purchased from a friend who's uncle had it stuck in a barn, covered with chicken shit and left for dead in the middle of a change to high bars. Titled as a 68, wire harness tag as 1966, aluminum fork lowers and a flat seat. So my question, were any of the alloy fork models also sold with the flat style seat? Perhaps it's an early alloy fork version with a transition year seat? I dunno. Through years of fiddling, the bike looks and runs very well, and I'd like to know that it is correct when showing it.

Sorry, your are correct. I wrote that from work this morning and didn't have my # on me. I do now however:

CB771033485

I suppose that makes it a bit easier to carbon date, eh?

Thanks for any info.

oh, there is one more thing which I'm not sure is correct...my Hawk has a 2 piece exhaust system with chrome steel non bolt-on bracket style mufflers. What year would be correct for the bolt-on bracket style mufflers? and...what year did Honda start installing a one piece welded up exhaust? So many questions.

I'll look up the frame year when i get home tonight,
concerning everything else, some pictures would be a great help in pointing out what year what part is etc...

I'm not 100% sure, don't have my books on me (i left them int he garage somewhere and can't find em)
but i think it's a 66.
I think the 7 digit frame numbers started in 65 and went to 105xxxx in 67.
you're about in the middle there... so 66 is my bet!

all i know about the exhaust is that in the "later years' they switched to one piece. i'd assume later is 67-69.
