CA77 Wiring Diagram with and without winkers

I found the attached wiring diagram with winkers on this site. My 65 Dream does not have winkers so I eliminated the winker wiring. Hope it will help someone else.

I was goofing off at work one day, during my lunch hour, and I took a CA77 wiring diagram and "colorized" it. Helps me see follow the wires much better than black and white.

i printed out the B&W and went over the lines with highliter/crayons ..... serves the purpose, but printing your out instead - much nicer ! thanks dogsbd!

My '65 has no brown wire coming off the back of the ignition switch and instead uses the green wire that feeds the dimmer switch to supply 12V to the speedo light. I do, however, have a white wire coming off the ignition switch. Anyone else have the same configuration as me? What is the white wire for?


The white wire is mounted at about the 7 o'clock position and is hidden in the pic below.

On my bike, the white wire in this conntector below replaces the black and red wire. Hmm. There is a black and red coming off the ignition switch and I presume it's going to the hot side of the starter relay as the diagram above says. What, then, does the white wire do?

In the pic below you can see how the green from the ignition switch T's into a wire going to the speedo housing and a wire heading up to the dimmer switch through the blue casing. The blue wire with the male end staring you in the face is the high beam indicator wire that goes to the speedo housing and gets its power by T'ing into the blue coming out of the dimmer switch and the blue going to the headlight.

FYI, for anyone with the exact same wiring as my 1965 CA78, the answers to my questions above are as follows:

The white wire off my ignition switch replaces the black with yellow in the diagram and feeds the tail light. The black with red does not run through the ignition switch 6 wire connector as depicted in the diagram but instead runs directly to the starter solenoid as its hot.

The stop lamp receives its power from one of the two black leads that come off the ignition switch.

Hope this helps someone whose wiring is not exactly as shown in any of the C77 diagrams most of us seem to be using.

Thank you for that diagram and advice guys. I'm rebuilding a beat up 66' CA72.

I just pulled my wiring harness because it's so mangled and hacked together that I'm going to totally replace it and build it piece by piece, this non-winker diagram will help immensely. Someone put in an aftermarket key switch that only has 3 places, one of them is the "start" button if you push it far to the right (like a car). Ironically the original 7 position switch is stuffed in there too and still attached to things...hmm... He then mashed together so many ugly things that I was scared to pull it all apart, but with this resource it should be easy as pie.

D; make sure you study and understand all the functions of the oem switch. when it is in a position to run the headlite, it connects extra stator coils into the charge system for the lighting load. a three position switch cannot do this. there is a way to bypass this function at the risk of constant overcharging. maybe that's what you have.
