new guy here with some questions
Re: new guy here with some questionsI see on the wiring diagram what you mean about the 2 circuits. It looks like the pink wire goes straight to the key switch and the yellow wire splits off and goes to the switch also. That would mean that the lighting circuit would be running on 12v AC (I think) but the charging circuit, going through the rectifier, would be a 12v (or so) DC circuit. It makes sense that if you connect the yellow and pink wires and the rectify and regulate the output, that you would have a higher output that could handle running the lights in the daytime. The state I live in in the US (North Carolina) requires that motorcycles have their headlights on in the daytime. IMO that is sort of meaningless now, safety wise, because most all the cars have DRL's and motorcycles don't stand out anymore. I digress. Thanks for all the info guys! Hopefully I'll post some pictures soon, been pretty busy with work (I'm supposed to be retired!) and school (again, I'm supposed to be retired!) Also, got the carb rebuild kit yesterday and it's pretty nice. Has all the parts I need including 2 different size main and intermediate jets. And all the sealing washers are aluminum, not fiber. Coil should be here Thursday, so maybe I'll have a go at starting it this weekend. Thanks again!
Re: new guy here with some questionsWell I got the coil yesterday and as of today...SPARK! Yay! Putting new oil in this weekend and will try to run it. Few more questions- in between getting this bike and starting back on it, we sold our house and moved. It was a big house and a big garage and workshop and as you can imagine, it was not easy or fun. So, can someone tell me or better yet, post a picture of 1.- where does the condenser mount and 2.- where do the breather tubes that come off the head on either side of the carb go? In all the excitement of the last year, I have forgotten where this stuff goes. Thanks!!
Re: new guy here with some questionsThanks sky.fred! Don't remember it being there, now just have to figure out how to get it back up there!
Re: new guy here with some questionsI have always found the factory location to be a bad place to access for the condenser. Unless you're fastidious and want the bike exactly as manufactured, maybe consider putting the condenser in a more accessible spot - not that it gets changed regularly.
The 2 hoses either side of the carb, just run back to the rear of the motor and hang down to free-drain along with a couple of other drain lines there. Good luck. Thanks.

Re: new guy here with some questionsCurrent condensers, mostly Chinese, are of poor quality and unreliable.
They can be moved to make them more accessible, but beware: the longer the connection, the lower the efficiency. There are two alternatives: - install an electronic condenser. They are reliable and efficient. In France, a craftsman integrates them into the original casing so that they are visually invisible. - use an electronic assist which allows you to keep the points assy but remove the condenser, as I need to do on my C72. ![]()
