C77E engine number and C78 frame VIN

Post by Chas Morgan » Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:19 am

Hi,

Can anyone advise please. My bike has a C77E engine number and a C78 frame VIN number. Was this a common thing or has a replacement engine been installed at some stage in the C78 frame. I’m trying to get an accurate date for the bikes manufacturer.
Thanks

Hi Dan. According to a post by Mr.Silver Mr. Honda. All CA78 seven digital frame numbers started in 1965. The tenth digital of the engine number sequence mostly CA77E's indicates the year of engine manufacture. Yes there were probably many CA77E designated engines that went into CA78 seven digit motorcycles produced 1965 and later.
Best I can ascertain during this confusing era of Honda. I am recent owner of a seven digit CA78 with a number 5 in the engine sequence that I am calling it a 1965. I don’t intend to ever sell it and it has been duly registered and titled. Have fun.
