65 - 66 CB77?

Post by MGB Driver » Wed Nov 01, 2023 8:18 pm

Thanks for the add! New member here from Cleveland Georgia. My buddy and I have purchased what we think is a 1965-66 Honda CB 77. I got it in my shop, and there was zero compression on one side, and only like 30 psi on the other. Dropped engine, removed cylinder head, (all the hardware was finger tight) and inspected the pistons and rings, one set of rings were seized flush, but the others seemed fine. Cylinders looked okay, and measured right at 60mm. (59.87 and 59.95 mm). I'm not sure if these values are within limits or not, but neither cylinder is scored or scratched.
What does everyone recommend as far as a technical or shop manual for these bikes? There's a couple of rust holes on the gas tank, that I will need suggestions on, but the rest of it I think I can figure out. We paid $800 cash for the bike...We're hoping we didn't get taken!

Welcome to the club.

I have collected some useful information for CB72/77s in my Google drive. Here's a link to the directory that contains them.

Please let me know if there is a problem downloading the files.

Enjoy the reading.
