Lights suddenly not working, any ideas?

Post by rider5 » Sun Apr 07, 2019 1:34 pm

My '67 305 Dream has decided her lights aren't going to work, both the headlight and brake light. Since it's pretty doubtful that both bulbs would fail at the same time I think it's something else. Could it be the rectifier?

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Rather than speculate as to wether both bulbs could blow simultaneously why not check them? It won't take a couple of minutes. Might be a current spike because of a bad earth, and they did both blow, or, might be you had not noticed the stop light failed until you noticed the head light go.

Not likely to be the rectifier.

Thanks DJM & Geoff Hastings for responding, I'll check out the bulbs.

does the taillight come on? if so in which switch position?sounds like a switch problem. the soldered connections on the back of the ign switch are prone to failure. study the wiring diagram and do some continuity checks.
Good luck
Randy
