Starter making noise

Post by FluteTears » Sun Oct 31, 2010 11:21 am

When my bike is cold the starter makes this noise.
See This video

Now I am ready to fix it.
Question can the starter be removed with out taking of the side cover the kick start and all.
And anyone have an idea as to what I may find.
Thanks

Ya can remove just the starter.
However at times a noise may come from the crank sprocket behind the rotor.
The starter will need good grease on the gear side and some at the brush end.
Careful. .........lm

Brad,

Your starter noise is identical to mine--thanks for posting the video! Sorry I can't help you identify the source.

I have a spare starter that I tore down, cleaned and re-assembled but I haven't swapped it in yet--maybe this winter. It will be useful to know if you find the source.

I just listened to your starter sound and I think it's the rollers behind the rotor slipping. .........lm
