Colors

Post by tsjedzjoe » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:35 am

I have bought a CL72 of 1963, simple brake in the front en fenders of aluminium.
So far I can see is it complete and everything is original. It has just run 10.000 mls

I have to redo the red of the frame and the silver of the sidecovers and fueltank. Can anyone tel me the right colours?

I have same year, same model and am planning on repainting the same colors, I believe 1963 red was the "Scarlet" with a silver tank. What is the best way of matching up the original colors, I was thinking of powdercoating the frame?

Hi Splitenz,

I can't powdercoat the swingarm because it has a sticker on it, wich I can't remove

Image

When I powdercoat the swingarm that beautiful detail would be lost
You don't know perhaps the color numbers.

Can anybody tell me what the sticker means

thanks

I searched for "paint codes" on this forum and found this thread:
http://www.honda305.com/forums/viewtopi ... aint+codes
bkelly23 wrote:Ed Moore sent me color numbers listed below. Honda had four colors for the CB77 Black White Red Blue.

Bike silver is DuPont IMRON 45040U (Fenders and Side covers)
Black is DuPont IMRON 99U.
Red 6543UM
Blue 63203UH
Don't have a code for white (looks awful on the CB77)
Now the question is where do we buy some?

Cheers!

Hai Inty,

Thanks or your searchwork
This week i'll go with this information to my local paintshop and ask wat he can do for me.
I'll let you know if he can get the color or perhaps reproduce it.

By the way, from another Dutch member of this forum I got the first information about the sticker on the swingarm. It has to do with the sort of swingarm that is used. Honda changed it several times.
I also have send that picture to someone in Japan, who translated some old Japanese Advertisments in the past. I'll hope he will do it one more time.
